Points for 295 Kohler (JDX4, JD300)

Post by smokindav »

Sledders,

I bought a set of points from my local John Deere dealer and they are not the same as the original points that came with the sled (JD300 with the Kohler 295). The hole is too small to fit on the shaft (minds out of the gutter please) and since the hole is too small the points bind on the shaft and don't operate properly, and the nylon insert that goes over the shaft is also too long, which means you can't fasten the points in place with the circlip anymore, which means the points can (and do) slide up and down the shaft while the motor is running. Ok, that all sounds really dirty, but it's the truth!

Anyway, were can I get the proper points for this engine? My project Parts Sled is nearing completion but I need the correct points or this baby will never shoot its wad (ok, that was a bit over the top).

thanks,

Dave

Have you looked at the Stator I have for sale in the classifieds?

PN- M64083 number comes up for newer 300s and X4s, as for the older 300s, no stator ass. is listed, so I, not sure about those.

Not sure where to get the right points Ive just filed the points in mine never changed them. I do recall having a similar problem with a set of ski doo points and I had to modify the bushing.
