2009 Ride with the Champs & Horicon Reunion
On Friday, February 20th, 2009, there will be a "Horicon Reunion" snowmobile show! It is being hosted by the JD Sled Riders of Horicon. Look here for details!
On Saturday the 21st is the official 2009 Ride With the Champs event held by the Snowmobile Hall of Fame! This year comes with a new twist: They will be having a new, more aggressive vintage ride, starting at the Hall of Fame in St. Germain, and heading up to Lake Gogebic in Bergland, MI. Then back to the hall, about a 150 mile round-trip. It has been dubbed the "Vintage Challenge". If you wish to attend, PLEASE bring a sled that is in excellent mechanical condition. Rebuilt engine & carbs, all bearings replaced, etc. We know that break-downs are likely unavoidable, so recovery teams will be in place.
There will still be a normal local vintage ride if you don't wish to run the Vintage Challenge.

Hi Kenny,
The Vintage Challenge is not going to be a race, but I've found that trying to keep up with JRC is a lot like racing.
The idea is to repeat last years "fast ride" with the Champs on vintage sleds. I am generally considering vintage to be any ski slapper 84 and older. We might have a few modern sleds along for towing and catching stragglers and such. The trails are very nice, well marked, but I still missed a corner last year. Opps. There really isn't a CC limit, but we are trying to get as many of the Deere race sleds to show up as we can. I am bringing at least two 340's.
The ride is about 75 miles each way to Fishtails on lake Gogebic, MI for lunch. As Matt said there will also be a more relaxed vintage ride, similar to last year.
For the newer guys going on the Vintage Challenge, we are recommending new crank seals or fresh rebuilds, new chassis bearing on the drive shaft, jack shaft and idler wheels. Basically, the idea is to have the sleds in top shape to minimize the chance of break down. Also, carbides are highly recommended along with studs if the sled has a newer track on it.
Kenny, you aren't thinking of getting #108 back into shape? Or, is the SEA trip still on? Would be great to have you and Wadeo join us...
Later Liquidator,
-Joe

Just was thinking on putting # 2 son On my other 78 CC that would be faster to do a rebuild on, as I wouldn't have to hunt down where all the parts are, LOL, No the VN trip is still on but might still be able to make the HOF as I don't plan on leaving until Feb 17th for VN. I was basically just asking question in case this was going to get real serious,

Rainville claims he is restoring a sled ( we'll see :ph43r: )
How much more serious can it get?

If Rainville brings a restored sled we all know it is because the NY Posse has restored it for him!
Joe will be so busy getting caught up on his "Honey Do List" that sled wrenching will be out of the question.

Well I am forseeing many NOS parts in my future if Joe is bringing more than one running, driving, up to par sled. As stated in the past: "Will work for NOS parts"
If I have the time and money to work on my own sleds, rather than Joes, I'd like to have my 295/s done to bring, but I am also bringing my 82 Liquifire for the fast ride.

In the topic on vs.com, Loren reports that Brian Nelson is planning to attend the event. Now JRC has someone to try to keep up with

Matt I see that the newest member to join has a user name Brian Nelson. Is he a member now? If it is welcome aboard Mr. Nelson.

Hi everyone. I called the 19th Hole today to see about making reservations for the Friday night fish fry on February 20, 2009. The lady I spoke with said that they don't take reservations...............so I dropped it at that point. I really want to pursue it further but would like a better count so if you are planning on attending that night would you let me know here. I still think that if we get enough that I can talk them into letting us have the upper area. Those that were there last year ( not sure about Joe R, he was a little under the weather) enjoyed the experience. The food was ok but the fellowship and stories were outstanding. A real highlight of the trip for me. DA
Feel free to check out our website www.buscobullet.com for restorations or parts.
