Bought a set of carbides for 80LF from DK about 2 years ago. Carbide was in wrong location. Returned them. Found NOS on e-bay for about same price (big rod, 5 inch and correctly located). 40% of carbide length should be forward of spindle axis projected to ground, or no more than 50% as a good rule of thumb. The DK ones were about 90% one way or the other, cannot remember which. Maybe I got a set from a bad batch?

Received a couple of sample studs from Woody's today. This is what I had sent them back on June 25th. :

A group of Vintage Deere enthusiasts are planning a ride ( race ) between St. Germain and Lake Geobic next Feb.

Several of us are riding 1975 JD 340S cross country race sleds. These sleds run the common 15" 2/3 steel cleated track with three belts.

We are looking to lightly stud the tracks to gain cornering and braking performance.

I am thinking to drill out cleat rivets, and install GDP6-7500 ( 7mm x .750" Gold Diggers ) in the cleats. Any help in patterns and quantities would be appreciated.

Would you be willing to send me one sample GDP6-7500 stud and nut so that I can confirm that this is what we need?

Installed, these studs should protrude above the cleats by a 1/4" or so, which is within recomendations. I don't believe these studs are shown in the Central Catalog, you'll have to order them from Woody's

I have called several Woody's dealers today and got the same response back from all of them. The 60 degree gold diggers .750 x 7mm (GDP6-7500) are no longer available from Woody's! The only shot we have of finding them is a dealer who has left overs on the shelf? Other options might be to use the .875 length (7/8")? I measured and the .750 stud would extend past the cleats by 5/16". The .875 stud would extend past the cleats by 7/16". This exceeds Woody's recommendations 1/4" to 3/8" beyond the cleat height.

Is there enough clearance at the front of the tunnel if the track ratchets?

Are there other options?

Ihave one "24" pack of john deere carbide studs that I do not need. Through the blister pack window they look to be about .650 long from bottom of hex to tip of carbide. The part no. is AM 53629, The pack says "24 studs, 24 t-nuts and 24 square backer plates, "fits all John Deere Smowmobiles with slide susupension". Note that this is an old set, before the "fire series logo". The pack has broken open and been retaped over the years. I would guess a couple may have fallen into the deep hole.......missing. The backer pates are stamped "K-K" which I assume to be Kalamazo Products. The carbide is swedged to the stud whereas the later production carbide tips were furnace brazed to the stud....more durable. These are NOT the best in relation to today's standards.......but they are short enough to fit older sleds with cleats. Please note that I have no experience using these....something I acquired years ago and never used.
