fuel pump rebuilt and put back in. added a fuel shut off for good measure. Kind of a mess of fuel line. I might change it, not sure yet.

gave it a few test pulls and it shows a big fat blue spark with my spark testers. A step in the right direction. This came after a new key switch from the local deere dealer. Not quite the same as you can tell from the pic. I had to hand file the flat sides down farther to where the shoulder is. The new switch was made for a smaller dash hole but after my modification it worked just fine as the nut was large enough to hide the discrepancy.

IT BREATHES!!!!!!
A little smoky due to all the 2-stroke oil from assembly. This vid is from about 10 seconds after it was started for the first time in over 20 years. There was two huge smiles on mine and my brothers faces after this as well as a few high fives. Next is getting the rear skid put back in and the skis back on. I am on the home stretch now.

Mine were virgin ears before today. And to brutally honest, I was expecting more of a crack from the exhaust. It is remarkably quiet for a twin tuned pipe machine. I can't wait to open this thing up on some snow!

Pulling the thermostat, gutting it so all you have is the brass washer with the hole in the center, then reinstall that back into the motor. 1. makes for more even warm ups, 2. keeps them running cooler, 3. less restriction for the water pump means more HP to the ground.... Always worked for us in all our Liquid motors ..... The faster you drive a Dator the cooler it runs...

Already done Kenny. I remember this being mentioned a while ago and I gutted the thermostat when I had the motor apart. I have opted to not put in an extra heat exchanger. Would like to keep original. Do you guys think that extra cooling is necessary?ICCSF 108 wrote: Pulling the thermostat, gutting it so all you have is the brass washer with the hole in the center, then reinstall that back into the motor. 1. makes for more even warm ups, 2. keeps them running cooler, 3. less restriction for the water pump means more HP to the ground.... Most defiantly if your going to trail ride it, as you never seem to get going fast enough to move enough air to keep the Dators cool without them. Use the 80+ one as the 78 one seems to get a film of dirt or debris on it & then doesn't cool as well, where as the 80+ one gets washed off by the snow..

If you want more crack to the exhaust take the collector off the twin pipes. It will have a good crack then. I found this out tis last winter and was suprised by how sharp the sound is.

Kenny, what is your idea of trail riding speed? Or more importantly, what speed is sufficient to keep it cool? Around here you run out of daylight before you run out of flat ground to open her up on. My trail riding speed is usually 40mph and up.
