CC Suspension

Post by Jack Frost »

I know that the 78 cc did not come with a limiter strap but why would Deere not use one? The reason for my question is because I have found a rear shock that is close to one inch longer open in length that will work. Problem is that this will allow the rear springs to move up one extra inch pulling them close to falling off the middle mount (aluminum spacers) and I don't like the fact that the shock will be stopping the suspension travel and not a limiter strap. Can any one shed some light on this or give me some suggestions.

Thanks
Dave

We used 2 limiting chains on the Dator ( only because we lost a shock bolt in the 76 I-500 which let the rear springs to slip by & start digging into the track ,took me I think 45 minutes + to replace bolt under race time) After the Dator heavy we never used a strap again in the Dator Lite, 77 or 78 sleds, why I don't know other than we always used green Loc-Tite on the shock bolts after that.. I guess we felt that if we broke a shock which would allow the springs to do the same thing we were probably screwed anyway, (because of repair time) & a strap unless made of chain probably wouldn't last either??? Maybe because of the way the suspensions were made we couldn't put a chain in there with out it possibly getting caught & hung up on something else??
