Arctic Cat Coil Problems

Anyone out there know about el Tigre engines? I have a 1981 with a 500cc liquid Suzuki engine. After it is run hard for about ten minutes it starts to cut out and quit. After it cool a few minutes it will start again and run fine for awhile. I was told by a mechanic it was the external coil. Changed that, still does the same thing. I was told by a friend it was the internal coils and that this engine was known to have this problem. Anyone out there know how I can test this theory before I tear the engine apart? Thanks.
