Liquifire elec start

Post by JDXspec »

Heres a question for you guys. I would like to put a elec start kit on my 83 LF it has the ring gear and housing to accept this. I acquired a 1980 Trailfire (best for parts) with elec start, can the kit be converted to fit my LF?. JDparts does not show a elec start kit for the LF and I did notice a serial # break for the trailfires. Wondering if anyone has a LF with a starter of has installed one. I remember someone doing this awhile back.

Dustin,

I have an '83 Liquifire and an '84 Liquifire with electric start. If you want, I can see if I can get some info by looking at mine tomorrow. There may be some numbers or something that may be useful on it for you.

That would be good Robb. I know I need a keyswitch and whatever else in the e start kit included. Its easier in the JDXs install starter and plug in the e start kit . This is a bit more involved. I would like to get it right the first time.

I also have instructions on how to install the electric start kit on the Sportfires. Pictures and literature. I bet it's the same or very similar to the Liquifires. I can make a copy and send it you if you'd like.

i did several . basically the set-up goes like this: the ac from the lighting coil is still regulated and used for RPM, lighting and acces; it is converted to DC with just one diode for the battery charging part; you connect the yellow AC wire under the dash to the new harness; a wire from the new harness takes the DC from the battery and uses it to actuate the solenoid thru the key switch which is now a 3/4" hole size so use a panel knockout tool for a good hole; the battery box has 4 holes to mount to the sled it is easier to drill out the one rivet i the way to mount it and if you need more if just ask. jim
