Liquifire is home!!
Pistons, rings, wrist pins and bearings are in today. Manufact. Supply does sell SPI pistons and they are tits!! If my gaskets arrive in the mail soon, she should be on her feet by the weekend...more late night coffee drinking going on for sure. More bad news, though...god do I have a black cloud.
My painter which is my best friend was on his way to work today (Todd). He had to swerve to miss a deer on I-180 to work, well he swerved into the left lane only to rear end a truck that was partially in the left lane stopped due to hitting a deer also.
Todd is allright after rear ending the truck at 65 miles per hour, he said his face looks like he ran it through a paper shreader with fresh razor blades...Not good.

I have used the SPI teflon coated pistons on a couple of Cuyunas I think they are great.
Bob what are you saying? You ate at KFC today?
Last Friday my wife KO'ed a deer on her way to work and the car was totalled. Chrysler 300's have very week front ends we found out
They don't make cars like they used to. Ten years back I tea kettled a buck with my 75 Chevy heavy half van and the total damage was a cracked turn signal lens.

Done got it done, now just to tidy up the loose ends and wait for the hood.
TIP:
When installing the float in your Mikuni Carbs, make sure they are not installed upside down..
She runs beautifully.

This sled has come a long way from where it was. I have some photos on my other computer that show what it was. It was a stripped down very ragged sled, I mean in bad shape. Everything on it now I can say has been gone through. I rode this sled last year and tried to break it literally, that's the only way to find the weakest link. Nothing broke at all. So, this summer I decided it was time for it to be correctly gone through and replace anything and everything with in reason of the depth of my pockets, some things still need upgraded to new like the dash board, correct temp gauge, etc, but its made to go with some show, Illinois sleds are not cream puffs, we do not have marked trails, we make our own and that means cornfields, ditches and road sides, probably close to what ETD and independent racers saw in the I-500's. This has been no easy adventure, some say I have luck on my side and other's know about my black cloud. I know you are looking for a sled like this per your other posts, any sled in any condition that is structurely sound can be made to run again. 90% of my work on this sled has been done on a trailer, same trailer as in the first picture of this post. Some hot summer days and some very cold winter days wrenching away, fingers so cold you cant even turn the idle screws on the carbs..neighbors think I am nuts too. They dont understand like we all here do. More pics are coming and they will be the finished product...in the near future.

Cool story. I've looked around this site for a picture thread, haven't found one. I think it would be cool for people such as yourself to have a thread where you can post a few pictures of the different stages you been through in the restoration.

Bob-
The pistons, rings and wrist pins were purchased through MFGS. They deal in SPI's. The cylinders were used from Eric, Muriatic acid cleaned them spotless. Some say just a few minutes with the acid, me on the other hand went about 5 minutes and worked it into the cylinders with a small paint brush. The deposits that I could find on the cylinders were very minimal, I worked the brush inside the holes until I could see a small film of a milky white residue forming. I then washed them in hot water and did the acid treatment again, no lines from rings or cold seizure at all. For assembly lube this go around I used, STP oil treatment. I saturated the ring groove and the entire outer diameter of the piston, lubed each ring and then installed it on the piston. Cylinders were lightly covered in STP and the wrist pin and wrist pin bearing was also packed with STP. This worked very well, filled the tank with a 93/110 octane and 2 cycle oil and began pulling. No luck, I had the floats in upside down, alot of long nights on this which I am sure caused my grief. Since then the floats are now correct, and she fires off in 1-2 pulls. Idle was tamed down to about 2000 rpms also. Good to go.
