i just rebuilt my 80 trailfire engine and everything runs great but the carb pumps gas out a little hole right above the top of the intake by airbox. carb was dunked and cleaned. any ideas :think:

I have the same problem/same sled on a recent restoration - let me know if you solve it, ehh!

not sure what caused the problem but i took thr carb off, took the bowl off and blew out the carb real good with air and re assembled everything and it works great no leaking. i must of plugged something with some rtv sealant i used on the bowl gasket. SO :letitsnow:

take the carb bowl back off and clean it rtv and gas are a big no no

I second the advise given by JDFanPa. silicone turns into something that looks like spam jelly. The stuff I have used is made by permatex, its called aviation gasket sealer. The stuff looks like a brown tar. comes with a top that has a brush attached. you should be able to find it a local napa auto parts.

Getting back to the original question, the gas is coming out of the vent tube becuase the needle/seat failed to shut off the gas as the float level rose. Check the floats and needle/seat.

Larky is that like the Old Indian Gasket maker made by Permatex? Also you sure that isn't the Primer hole its leaking out of. Should be a screw in there to block the flow.

ya cleaned rtv out and found float needle sticking so a little wd40 got things going and no more leaking

just something tokeep in mind like the needle stuck open its not at all uncommon for them to stick shut specialy when the sled sits for along time so if you find yourself where it looks that gas is getting to the carb but it wont start unless you spray something in the carb to look to this needlr this has happened to me numerous times
