My friend has a Polaris Indy 500 trail that burn't a piston, we got the cylinder off and removed the piston. There is aluminum from the piston melted right on to the side of the cylinder wall, the cylinder doesn't look that bad except for that aluminum built up on the cylinder wall is there some type of acid or something you use to remove the aluminum from the cylinder wall without just clogging up a hone or do you have to just wire wheel it all off? By the way I found the reason he burn't it, the carb was all gunked up with crap.
Someone told me there is some type of acid or something that you can get at a hardware store that will eat off the aluminum, but they said it's really nasty stuff, it will burn your nose hairs off. Does anyone know whats the name of this stuff?

thats costic soda( also know as lye) your refering to and as its an acid base its not bad however i would not reccomend it in cylinders that are not steel.
