cyclone 340

Post by fordmtrsp »

I have purchased a cyclone 340 with a burnt piston that has 440 jugs on it . I think the reason it is melted down the carb only has a 350 main jet shouldnt it be bigger with 440 jugs? Also if I am to rebuild it do I order a 440 gasket set? Please help if you have any answers let me know Thanks!!

As it has one carb one would assume that if it was a jetting problem it would affect both pistons.

You may well have a bad crank seal which would only affect one side.

A complete teardown would be in order and a 440 gasket/seal kit.

And the proper jets.

The pto side seal and every thing looked good and that was the side that had a hole in the piston and the seal on the mag side was ok but the spring in the seal was broken. what size jet should i use with a 340 carb with 440 jugs? the air box was gone so im pry going to buy a uni filter from dennis kirk un less you have any other ideas?

I have no clue as to what jet would be recommened without the airbox.

If the spring is broke the seal is broke. Seals are cheap, replace them both.

To help indentify the engine, look at the aluminum mounting plate for the ignition coils. The plate on the 76 engine bolted behind the carb at the bottom, the 77/78 bolted to the intake manifold above the carb. Check out the FAQ section, the carb specs are listed there.
'76 440 cyclone
'76 440 liquifire
'78 440 Cyclone
'75 JDX8 (sold to a member here)
'78 Liquifire(CrossCountry Clone)
'80 Liquifire(sold)
