temp gauge not working?

i just took 77' liquifire out for maiden voyage after purchase 3 mo. ago. i am new to the sport.
the temp gauge didn't come above 100. i did notice the temp gauge tube is longer than required. can any one shed any light on the subject for me? how does the gauge work? it it obviously all mechanical.

Its more than likely broke. It has a gas inside that sending unit, once cracked, its done. I put a cheap Sun gauge in my 81.

You problably wouldn't want to spend the money for an NOS temp gauge, they are like gold. There are a few decent aftermarket gauges out there. Someone had posted an article on repairing a gauge last year. I'll try and find it.

hey man jd jason here. been in your position as well didnt want to spend extra cheese for the factory gauge so i put new one from my napa store cable is a mile long but there is plenty of room to hide it and it looks good and works great. hope you find what your looking for :letitsnow:

what kind of temperatures should i be seeing. there currently is an aftermarket gauge in it. now i am wondering maybe it does work??? it reads 105 F after about 5 min. even after riding on the road at w.o.t. it doesn't read any higher.
