......Yes a "lab seal" was what this fellow said, and a sleeve will correct the clearance issue, obviously the crank moving around created that problem.
I was stripping down my other 440 in preparation for sending it out, I can't get that damn fly wheel off, I had a lot of pressure on it too, so much so, that I broke one of the bolts holding the puller to the fly wheel, there not real big bolts of course, tried some heat, and some solid hits with a hammer, and it will not budge, I might not be getting it warm enough, not really sure how much heat to put on the fly wheel, I don't want to wreck something, I don't like using a hammer either......S

What are you hitting with the hammer? With tension on the puller, as you are trying to pull off the flywheel, are you hitting the pressure screw? Which is what you want to do. Do you have a big enough hammer? I don't mean using a 12 pound sledge, but a 12 oz ball peen won't do it either. I have had a couple flywheels which needed the 4 pound mini-sledge and a lot of tension to pop them off. Shouldn't really need heat, the wrong things can get melted with too much heat.

When in doubt, I'll whip it out. I got me a rock 'n 'roll band. It's a free for all.....The Nuge

Some motors will have a bell housing that unbolts from the upper & lower cases 1/2's, on these types of motors you will need to unbolt it before trying to remove the flywheel.
If you have the kind of pressure on the flywheel that I think you have you better be looking for what is holding it on before you break something.
Also you will need to use some harden bolts as puller bolts (such as allen head metric bolts that you can get at Home Depot) the ones that Kawi & other motors use stock for the starter cup are too soft to use as puller bolts, and they ussually break before the flywheel pops.

.....Never fails.......I seem to learn new things all the time......So!!!!!while I am swearing at this flywheel and its obstinence for being removed......I decided to look in through the inspection cover to see if I could see something wrong......everything was fine......with the exception of the flywheel having an attached ring gear.....go figure!!!!!a non electric start snowmobile with a ring gear on the flywheel.......So!!!!!for anyone trying to remove a fly wheel, always check for a ring gear......makes taking things apart way easier......later S

......So!!!!!!to everyone following this situation......the saga has ended.......engine is reassembled.....I re used my pistons and rings....new gasket kit of course, put my carb back on, and it runs perfectly.
The crankshaft has new bearings, and I used my other 440 case, plus they used some parts from the other 440 crankshaft during reassembly.
What happened was that the crank had started to separate on the pto side and chewed out the case approx .020, this situation also raised havic with the labrinth seal, although the lab seal does not fit tight around the crank(as I thought, but was told differently on this site), my clearance was a bit excessive for proper performance.
So there it is.......thanks to everyone who contributed to this particular forum, it has been a good learning experience.
We still don't have much for snow, we get some snow, and the temp warms right up and melts it, it was +10C yesterday, not your typical Jan weather, now today a system has moved in and dropped the temp down to about -12C.....its trying to snow.....guess we shall see how much success we have......later S

This was an interesting thread. Glad to hear you have the problem resolved, except for the situation with the snow.
