carb intake flange for leveling carb out

Post by outlawbulldog »

I have a custom sled with a 400 quad plug motor and need to find two flanges to give me the right angle for my carbs. They are greater than 20% now and spit gas out of the carb. I was told to level out the carbs and this will go away. Lead me in the right direction would ya! Thanks, cory
I know some of the older deeres had these plastic angled spacers.

If you can't find what your looking for, some old sleds used a 2" (bakelite)?? I think that is what they were made of, they were kind of brown in colored spacer/insulator. If you got that then you could have it milled to the angle you need..
hope this helps

You can also make a custom adapter. I know several guys that put Miks on all there vintage sleds.
It will take a couple of hours to fab them up but not that tough to do.
Use a 1.5" 45deg elbow and cut it in two. Then weld on flanges made from 1/4" flat stock with the appropriate bolt spacing and throat hole.

Todd, that would be easy in a single carb sled, But on a duel carb sled a person would have to have every measurement right on the nuts so both the adapters flowed the same & were the same length in the middle & on both ends, this a delema I'm facing when installing a big 440 twin T7 engine in a Snowfire, I will need some kind of angle adapter to get the 36mm Mikuni's to set horizontal, & be exact so to make Max power..
That is why I'm leaning toward the bakelite spacers milled on one side to the angle I need..

Interesting concept you have going there. Is the existing opening big enough to accommedate the quad heads?

My plan is to use some type of hood that gives it a more race look. kind of like a modified 340/S type hood ( thus the name 440/S project - S could also mean Snowfire ) I've also looked in to a inverted Snowfire pan for a hood, this gives it more of a Thunder Chicken look, also " kinda cool looking "
All still a ways off as I'm waiting for my machinist friend to make me a Hex DD front shaft to mount the liquifire drivers to..

Oooo,, I like the belly up idea. Use the spindle holes to mount a pair of driving lights. I bet you have an NOS pan already.

You going to extend the steering post to complete the SST look?

Steering post & handle bars have been cut off & modified to use the CC bar look.
