340/S Brouchure on Ebay

Post by WinnipegStPaul9 »

There is a "copy" of an original 340/S brouchure on Ebay right now. It's auction number 310107115483. If memory serves me correctly, this was more of a "spec sheet" than a sales brouchure that came along late summer or early fall of 1974. You might find it interesting to look at this brouchure ( you might want to zoom if you can) and check out the features that did NOT make it to production.

Here's what I noticed, can anyone find anything else?

Dual fill openings in the hood with chrome caps
Air scoop in the hood
Windshield design looks like 76 Cyclone/LF
Rectangular headlight
Ski loops are not round
Perhaps a front bumper that protrudes forward

I'm guessing that this is a Dreyfuss drawing but honestly I think it looks cool. I'm guessing the production folks said it couldn't be built that way.

DA,

The drawing looks like a IFS model to me. Also did you notice the hood pins behind the windshield on each side of the dash?

Hey Don,

I purchased an orginal of this brochure off Evil-Bay several years ago. I am guessing like you did that it was an early HDA concept pic of what the 340/s could have been.

I also noticed the "V" shaped handle bars and the "boots" covering the spindles. Also neat to see that some of those features made it to the 340/s and the Liquifire and Cyclone to follow. For example the 'shark gill' vents, the right side gas cap, squared off seat, passenger handles, etc.

Too bad the cool looking NACA duct didn't make it. I guess when you go from concept to running sled in 9 months, things change!

The Shocks are above the leafs. Is that the way they actually built this model... that I do not have... and want?

Yes, the 340S has the shocks directly over the springs.

72tx340,

The picture in the brochure is a prototype drawing. Some of the features in the drawing made the sled and some were dropped. The 340/s was only made for the '75 model year. There are some variations in the model. The first models came with a glass pan and thin bumper. They were replaced with a kit which was a aluminum pan and heavier bumper.

72TX,

The 340/s was only built for the 75 model year, in the fall of 74. Since the sled is now 35 years old, the ski's and shocks could have been swapped out. For example, the JDX series and the later 100 series sleds had the shocks next to the ski springs, with flat top ski loops instead of round loops.
