Picked up another Spitfire
Picked this '79 up at an auction Thursday for $50. Complete sled that's been sitting for awhile. 115psi on both cylinders and fires with premix in carb. Thought I had it's twin bought for $15 as well, but apparently they didn't hear my bid??? I wasn't too happy. This one was a lot rougher with a locked up motor, but still had a lot of good parts. Guy that won it wouldn't sell it either! I began messing with it tonight, but what's the deal with this carb. I don't belive this is the correct carb, as my book shows it being a slide. So what do I have here and will it work ok? Thanks in advance

Are you sure its a 79 and not a 78 I beleive it is definatly a spit carb but thought they were only on the 78 models but as you know parts from different yrs get swapped onto sleds all the time.

Looks like the right carb to me for a 79 Spitfire. The 1978 Spit had a Mikuni slide valve, but the 79 and newer Spitfires had the Mikuni float carb like the one on yours. Seemed like a step backward to me, but who am I to judge?

Ok now I get it. I use to have a '78 with the slide carb and that is what year my manual is too. My '82 has the slide carb on it as well, so that must have been changed over at some point in its lifetime. Thanks for the help guys, now I just gotta get everything cleaned up and new fuel.

My spitfire has the slide mikuni carb in 1978. Here is the best pic I have here if you like I can go get better ones for ya caleb! Nice grab for 75 bones... I am jealous you see what I bought for 250...

Rich, do you have the VM slide carb specs for the spits with the kawi motors? Roughly the same carb specs as the kohler?
