Carbs on an 83 Liquifire

Post by deerecrazy82 »

On my 83 Liquifire the carbs are puking fuel out of the overflows like crazy. Just Idling after two or three minutes and there is a pretty big puddle underneath it. I have adjusted the floats according to the manual to no avail. Carbs are spotless. Also the fuel pump was also puking out fuel out of the little hole above the one outlet to the carb. I plugged it but then it was forcing fuel out around the screws on the top. What is the purpose of this hole? I couldnt get it to stop leaking so I stole the pump off of my other liquifire which is a different style pump. Much shorter with a B stamped by the impulse line inlet. Even with this pump it still seemed to push a lot of fuel out of the overflows. What is the problem and how can I solve it.

Did you add new needles and seats from the 36-38mm kit? If you did, check to see if your float arm is hitting the needle, not the clip. If it is not hitting the needle, re-install your old needles and seats. If you are experiencing fuel leaking into the motor when it is in storage, Polaris sells the correct ones brand new. Something is plugged or not opening, and your fuel has no other place to go.

The hole in the top of the pump may be a vent.

Problem solved!!

:D I installed a set of viton tips and it fixed the problem. I guess the rebuild kits from mfg supply must just have cheap needles and seats because it isnt leaking any fuel from the overflows. Runs and starts alot better now too. Now all I can hope for is some snow and maybe I might get this fresh motor broke in this year.
