Whats the difference

Post by ICCSF 108 »

Does any body know what the actual obvious difference is between the Std & Cross Country 80- Liquifire cylinders? ( besides the lowering of HP ) Is there any special markings on the Cross Country cyl.s so you would know what you have?? Or couldn't get them mixed up?? Beside the lowering of HP how did they work? Did they add torque? were the transfer ports better than the std ones??
Another question, I know you can't take a regular Kawi 440 Liquifire out .080 ( cyl walls to thin ) but would it be better to re-sleeve with steel liners or can the cylinders be built up to re-bore & then Nikasil them to take the .080 over pistons ??
Also IF you had a .080 over Kawi/Liquifire engine what cc would it now be??
Thanks

Kenny

Had to break out the calculator but .080 over would give you 462.236 cc.

But that would depend on if you were using Invader or Liquifire heads right?

Well as the dome on the .080 pistons is higher than the liquifire pistons I will probably have to use liquifire heads as they have a larger squish pattern than the OEM Kawi type heads..

This may turn into a rather High dollar project just to get 22 cc's more?? I was hoping for maybe 500 cc's but to get 60 cc's more from the 440 I would need how big of an over size piston??

Not counting loss of the dome you would need pistons around .190 over. For a true 500 cc.

Thanks Rich that was what I was wondering, Do you know if they still say 440/2A on them or is there any Identifying numbers?? As most people who would have a set unless they were NOS & still had the Deere part number wouldn't Identify them as having a smaller exhaust port..

a normal aluminum cyl in a 5hp briggs usually goes 1 season before boring, from personal experience a nikisiled cylinder went 5 full seasons before boring.
Thanks,
Ted
