Disconnecting Trailfire Oil Injection
Disconnecting Trailfire Oil Injection
Will there be any harm to engine if this is done & just run pre-mix. Does the oil injection feed any of the crank bearings? thanx for your help guys. AWZ

Disconnecting Trailfire Oil Injection
If you disconnect the O/I and run premix, it would be like running a regular no options Trailfire. So that you don't wreck a potentially good and functional pump, you may as well take the oil pump and it's drive key out. Make sure to either vacuum cap the spigots on the intake or put on a non-o/i intake. Running pre-mix is always better in my opinion. You always know how much oil the engine is getting, and there's no possibility of oil pump failure in extreme cold weather.....because there's no oil pump.

Disconnecting Trailfire Oil Injection
Hey Aaron,
There are only two lines feeding oil into the Trailfire motors, one at the inlet of each inlet manifold. There is not a third oil line like the 80-84 Liquifires had to feed the center crank bearings.
Why are you taking it off? Something not working?

The problem with the oil injection system on the Trailfire and Sportfire is that it is an add on system. The motors where not originally designed with it in mind. The Liquifire's system is much more integrated and more reliable. A mechanic that sold and worked on these sleds when they were new has always told me to toss the oil injection on the Trailfire and Sportfire and premix it. They were not considered reliable when new and I doubt they have improved with age. I think that it is mostly the drive system for the oil pump that is a concern. The oil injection on the '82 trailfire that I have was long gone when I got it, the Sportfire still has it's oil injection and I'm leaving it on for originality, it works but I am premixing it. If I hadn't been premixing it I would have burned down the motor last year.

The Trailfire that it is on I sold to a guy & judgeing buy the looks in the tank there is a chunk of ice which proved to be true. It would have needed new lines & filter. I told the guy I would just get it running for him. & get the key & kill switch to work. Anyway I cut the line & plugged it & drained the tank & added some 50-1 Amsoil mix. Thanx for the replies.JoeRainville wrote:Hey Aaron,
