Ya, I buffed my exhaust a little bit and applied the paint. It looks really good but I'll have to see how well it last.

I wonder how having it jet hotted, then scuffing it, then painting it black would hold up?

I had to jump in. As a former Deere dealer, even I never ever suggested John Deere High Temp paint due to it's price. Also the fact that it had a lower temperature range. It's just plain crazy how that paint's priced. Needless to say, our sales on this paint were flat lined.
When I had my 1970 429SCJ Torino, I looked around for a paint to use on the Hooker headers (remember those?) before I installed them. I ended up blasting them and painting them with the VHT header paint as was suggested earlier. In all the years I had that car and even though I drove it little the paint stayed on those headers.
I also agree that ceramic coating would be the ultimate, again the price might be a factor.
Some fellow tractor restorers are so purist that they will paint the manifolds JD green fully knowing they will heat up, burn off, and rust just like they did when new. I wasn't that far gone, I always painted them black with the VHT. It worked well for me.
Good luck
Greg

Krylon Barbeque paint- nothing else... I use it on all my exhausts', works great. Clean the old pipe first with lacquer thinner, then scuff it up and shoot it.

The sled should be running tomorrow night if not Sunday morning. finally I'll be able to ride my first Deere. Never rode this thing and have had it since winter 04-05. I'll get a video of first start up.
They are calling for snow tomorrow and Monday hopefully enough that I can ride.

I've got a guy here locally that will sandblast and ceramic coat my exhausts for around $100. Header & pipe. He also blasts and uses high tamp paint if you wish but he states that if snow gets on the exhaust of the painted pipe, it will come off. The ceramic coating will not come off.

Yup she even turned on the oven, I just had it all cleaned & sand blasted, so it didn't even smell, my wife is used to the smell of stuff around here, welder, paint, parts washer, carb cleaner, brake cleaner, gun oil & lube, etc. LOL
