Found out speed of '80 Liquifire

Post by cosmo440 »

Had a buddy of mine, who weighs about 50lbs less then me, do a high speed run today. Speed was compaired to a 01 600 mountain cat running beside it. He hit 75mph, was still climbing but very slowly at this point, run was close to a mile long. I understand there is a margin of error on speedos, but good indication of how fast it goes. My brothers '80 Trailfire 340 maxed at about 57mph, probably would have been more if my lighter buddy was on it. The Trailfire has been in storage for about 3 years before today, only problems is it has a low end bog in it and a vibration, I think from the drivers or the track, at high speed. The sled is in excellent condition otherwise, as my brother is the second owner and the previous owner took very good care of it. He bought it and used it for about 2 seasons, even in a vintage drag race, before it went into storage.

My 1981 stock 440 LF did 72 mph in a radar run 1/8th mile track non studded track, and was still gaining speed at the end. It seems like only 75 in a mile run is very slow. Should at least be up in the 80's mph

On an iced over road, my 80 LF hit an "indecated" 85 on the speedo. That was circa the winter of 1999, and I was more than a bit nervous. She was all stock, minus Invader heads and ignition.

On a slightly packed road going downhill I got my 80 Liquifire up to 82mph on the speedo.. it was really flying. 4900 miles on it and running strong.

:beers; Back in the olden days when Carla (from MO & never been on a snowmobile) & I were just married (I think, or maybe just before) when she only weighted 98 lbs soaking wet, :silenced: I had her setting in front of me on the 80 liquifire & were bombing down this hard packed road :sled: at night at about 130KPH she's watching the speedo & sees a T road approaching thinking were going 130 MPH :shifty: needless to say she got just a little excited.. :lol22:

My 80 LF also runs out at about 80mph we also had an 80 Trailfire 440 which was not as fast as the Liquifire probably 10mph slower.
my LF just turned 3000 miles and still is running good except yearly maintenance.
