I need to replace the shock on my 83 TF, would like to get a stiffer one if possible. I've never dealt with them on any type of vehicle other than saying replace them. Could someone point me in the right direction to get started? Do I need to know length? If so, where do you measure? Is there some sort of resistence measurement?
thanks
Mike

Measure the shock when it is extended, and when it is compressed. Measure theinside of the eyelet without bushings. (save metal bushing from original shock). Measure the width of the eyelets. To stiffen your ride, buy new springs from shadetreesnomobile.com (slide suspension springs). Go to dkebay.com and find the spring adjuster blocks. Type in keyword "deere" and follow the list. Your shock doesn't control the stiffness of your jounce and rebound, it simply adds cush. Your springs are what add travel, stiffness, or looseness to the bumps. Every shock uses 30% of it's energy to compress, and 70% of it's energy to rebound. Hope this helped.

Excellent! Thank you Jack. I have the blocks already, I'll try the new springs before I go nutz on the rest.

Holler if you need a shock or rear suspension arm for your TF. I have NOS parts and semi complete suspensions for sale that I could bring with me in a few weeks.

Joe, what do you have in the way of working temp gauges for the 80-84 LF, square headlights and grilles, or low pro windshields for the 80 and up LF's?(New or used)

I recommend calling Bob at image enterprises. Hes got NOS shocks for all deeres. I got one last year for my sportfire and it was great. I believe its the same as the trailfire since the suspensions are the same. It was like 28 bucks.....hahha get it? bucks...like deere..oh well thats my best attemt at humor..
