saturday night I was riding with a group of new Polaris Dragons and these boys "ride". They laughed and stated they would wait for me when I got behind. Well I was 2nd in the group of 5. We started our ride home and by the first corner I was 4th in line, well I cant have that, so I held the old girl to the bar, and proceeded to pass everyone in the corner, mind you this is a flat field with no trees, no blind corners, just waterways where the trail is. Well after coming out of the corner I again was passed by 2, came into the next corner, and passed them again, I then held her wide open across the field and she held in there pretty good with the 600's & a 750 FST. We were not doing the 55 at night speed limit Im sure, so I am naughty for that I know, but I couldnt let the old girl get shown up too much. When we got to town and were saying our goodbyes, I was told that my " dinasaur" was fast as hell for a " dinasaur". I was suprised how all that suspension on the new sleds made them corner so poorly. I was laughing with delight...

Ralphy, that is my point about new sleds. You give up something to get something.

Nice Thats why I dont want to sell the Deere. Our doos are so tippy feeling going into the corners that you are forced to slow down.

I cannot fathom what the new sleds are selling for. Its a great sport, but my oh my are they getting pricey....

Those new sleds have HP and suspension, but between the weight and high center of gravity, you do have an advantage, unless somebody, who knows shock valving, and steering geometry changes to make up some of that. I don't like the latest and greatest, because of the weight, and heavy feel, compared to yhe vintage performance sleds of the late 70's, and early 80's.

I was always partial to the mid 90s ZR, very nice ride, but handled great also= low center of gravity. JD was well ahead of the times putting that 440 liquid as low as they did.

You need to get this guy on the LF as it sounds like the new Doo ruined vintage sleds for him.

Rich,
You have a point when you correct for inflation. Don't forget the 300 had aluminum centered bogies instead of steel. I am sure that was a huge feature improvement over the 400..(sorry, my twisted sence of humor got the best of me again..!)

How about this one for inflation. 88 Polaris Indy 650 for $4950. 97 Polaris Indy XLT Special 600 for $5100 and $100 worth of free gear. 99 Polaris Indy XC 600 for $5150. I still have the bill of sales for the XC 600. 2009 Polaris IQ Shift 600 maybe for $6900 with no Fox Gas Shocks, no decals, No tachometer, basically no windshield, seat, or storage. What a bargain, NOT. $200 in 11 years. $1750 in 10 years and less sled. Nuff said. Duane

Seems to me that when my Dad bought our Spitfire new in 79 it came to about $1300. He liked it because it as small, light, simple to work on and could be drug easily out f the creek if he sank it when out moose hunting. It never saw much hunting time cuz I had it all the time. Great sled!

I have never owned a running 80's Liquifire until tonight. You are right Ralphy, I can see how they would really give newer sleds a fit in the woods if the trail was relatively smooth. I have been a tried and true first generation Liquifire rider until tonight. After going on a hell ride I can definetly see your point. I am very impressed. Duane

My dad always rode doo growing up and told me that Deere sleds were like the Polaris of today. He couldn't afford a Deere they were top of the line. Back then $1300 was a lot.

You should see what 600 cc does in the same sled its...interesting. a guy i know fitted a set of cylinders from jetski on one.. wow that thing was super fast... dangerous too. also something to check out if you ever encounter one is the 9700 blizzard racers 82. rare as hell but interesting none the less 9500 blizzard are more common to find though.
