Well the Massey lives again, and she's running in top form. But the fixing never stops, I got 20 mile or so and the primary developed a nasty clank/ rattle at idle and low speed so back in to the shop it went. Turns out that one of the rollers was cracked and the fibre bushing that is in the middle of the clutch was broken into several pieces. I though that I could steal the primary off the other Massey and be on the trail in an hour or so. Turns out that the fibre bushing in the other one was also broken. Kind of weird as the sled only had 22XX miles on it. I ended up JB welding the bushing together and reassembling the clutch.
The local relic races was the next day and only a few miles from where the Massey was so I figured I would ride over and save loading the sled. I took of through the hills, I found what looked like a nice flat area so I gave it some gas and was cruising along and got into some really weird drifts. Long story short I ended up over the front of the sled. The 30+ year old windshield disintegrated when I hit it, the hood was made out of some good stuff as it took a 220+ pound guy rolling over it and didn't even crack. I got back on and rode into the yard.
I never did race the Massey as it was a fresh rebuild and I had only a few miles on it and was not as comfortable as on the LF. The LF did very well in the cross country races, The fist races a pair of Yamaha's got the jump o me but I was the first one in the tree's and never looked back. The turn out was not as good as in the past so we opened up the classes so the big guys could run. In the last race I came in fourth behind 5500 Blizzard, a Phazer and an exciter. I managed to stay ahead of a pair of Indy 500's.
I never knew the amount of work that goes into prepping for the races. There was only really 4 of us doing the work and it still took two days to get all the markers and signs up.
I was a little worried when the piston came out of the motor as the was a large piece missing. Below are a few pics
