This is not a good answer to your question, just my opinion(not worth much)...I collect and enjoy my Deere sleds for what they are, vintage machines from what I believe is the golden age of snowmobiling. My newer machines provide me with two important qualities for modern day snowmobiling....long mileage comfort, and reliability.

I personally would not expect my old sleds to do the things my newer sleds do, but the new sleds will NEVER bring back the great memories I have growing up as a kid in the 70's, riding dad's brand new John Deere's!

Keep your machine in good original shape and enjoy it as a classic!

Thanks for letting me run my mouth.

I agree with cyclone but l unfortunatley can't afford a new sled to ride, so I have to work with my classic jd.

I'm working on stiffening my suspension, its got enough clearance for what I want to do but I bottom it out quick.

Dennis Kirk has about 200 of the spring stiffener kits for the fire series deere's on ebay. Check it out at dkebay.com....type in "deere"

I agree with Cyclone too. Leave them be. Newer sleds with long travel and IFS are everywhere. They aren't making Deere's anymore. Enjoy it for what it is. Mike
