AAEN Performance Pipes

That Girl Racing wrote:Ralphy is right that the motor needs to spin around 9000 for these pipes to work. Problem is the porting on the motor is not designed for 9000 RPM. At the very least the exhaust port needs to be raised one mill. The pipes will make less power without some engine changes than the stock pipe. I know that someone will say I am wrong but if they want to drive it up here and put it on the dyno I will rip up the dyno bill if I am wrong. Peter

Peter: Just the top of the port or the whole port raised 1 mm

Hi Kenny. I would raise it one mill and widen at the top One mill. Blend it in as far as you can. You might be able to go more before the motor loses torque. There are big gains to be had by widening the exhaust port but ring life suffers. Peter

Im thinking of selling the pipes ( Kenny has 1st dibs, I promised that months ago). I dont need to be revving 9000 to give my kid a ride.....I will take them off at the end of this year or next fall when I do a routine carb check & rejet for the stock pipe. The muffler is in the end of each pipe. If I remember correctly the Liquifire I had 20+ years ago (a 80), had a lot more low end punch than my piped one now, which is probobly correct, as stated by the others, the pipes make less power at 5000 to 8000 rpms than the stocker. If its going to be an all out racer, with porting, head changes, larger cfm carbs, than pipes are the answer, but not for a stock trail sled in my opinion. I also believe the pipes I have are for an Invader, as they fit kinda poorly. I had to put some rubber between the pipes and the chassis to prevent rubbing holes in them, and they exit about 5 inches behind the stock bellypan hole.

to get the most out of the pipes aaen has a list of port specs and head mods to use them. i have a copy of it if you need it. they will work on the 4/6 motor. i talked to olav years ago and the pipes are the same for most of the motor familys.
