Getting flywheel off Kaw 440

Post by jerryswiss »

It is out of a AC Cheetah 1973. I know this particular machine has been out side for a long, long, time. There is some rust on steel parts. I am even having trouble getting the two pieces of the axel fan pulley apart.

I have been using a three bolt steering wheel puller with an electric impact wrench, lots of heat and some penetrating oil. It does not seem to want to budge, and I do not want to break something. Any ideas? Thanks.

i had trouble getting the flywheel off a JD liquifire, kept breaking the puller bolts(the 3 that go where the starter cup does) used heat and penetrating oil and couldnt get it. eventualy used parts from 2 different pullers to get the arms to fit in the holes in the flywheel and cranked it down, then i kept hitting it with a hammer and using the impact and eventualy it came off.(it will fly off when it comes). dont wory about breaking it too much- those engines are prety tough- and remember that if you cant get it apart to fix it its junk any way so you dont realy have anything to lose.
