No fuese under the hood.

I pulled the cd player and radio and checked for power none . Traced the harness back to to fuse box all wires look fine no chaffing or anything. I checked for power at the fuses for the radio no voltage...

any idea

The things that should work when the key is turned on are not. Radio power windows lights on the radio and the heater control panel. However the heater control panel works other then the lights

The instrument panel works fine lights and all.

Just for Shits and giggles change the radio fuse. Also See about getting to the back side of the box. Maybe bad connection or ground.

they shoul be right in the drivers side fender well. Right across from the battery. Or they are tucked right up against the firewall up near the steering wheel.

If my memory servs me right, the "radio" that you think is in the dash is not a radio. The unit in the dash is just a player, the actual reciever is located up inside the dash, which is the actual stereo, otherwise known as the reciever. My 94 chevy did the same thing, the "radio" lights up but no sound. Try your AM setting, if that works, your FM band is blown in he reciever, very common on these vehicles with age. The recievers are common on ebay and salvage yards.

I just remembered something. When we got the rear window replaced the guy shorted out the third brake light and it killed the radio. Does the third light work?? I dont know what happened but as soon as we left the place the radio quit. We took off the housing or replaced the fuse and it worked again. Sorry I was young but I remember the third light causing a problem. Funny story we put the sled through the back window off the truck so we needed a new one. :D

When I was checking the fuese I was putting a ohm meter across the fuse while it was still installed. They all where checking good.

But I guess that was checking the whole circuit not the fuse. I looked in the owners manual and the Courtsy fuse had all the systems that were not working right so I pulled it and it was blown. Replaced and woa it all works.

This was after hours with the dash allapart and looking at wire bundels and connections yuke What a stupid oversight..

Thanks for help guys

HAHAHAHA at least you got it fixed now that you say that it makes sense. Your in Series when you check resistance so it was just going in one lead and out the other showing a good connection. Now to find out why it blew. :D
