Vintage Derby near Roblin, MB

Post by Liquifire 4/6 »

Just a reminder that on Saturday, March 7 there is an excellent vintage derby held out of Makaroff (almost a ghost town) near Roblin,MB. If you are anywhere within driving distance, you really should consider coming down for it. The trail is approx 22 miles (all groomed) and it runs for the most part, through a very scenic valley. Registration is between 10:00 and 12:00. The derby is open to any sleds 1984 and older (see, I made sure that all John Deere sleds qualify  ). I'll try attaching a few pics I shot yesterday while I was out grooming the trail so that you can have a peek at some of the terrain and scenery. Hope to see lots of you there!

Yeah, there's some pretty nice scenery to ride through. We usually have tons of people stopping along the trail just to take pictures. A few hundred feet before the cabin, there is an old shed that has large doors on both ends. I wasn't sure I'd be able to get permission to run the trail through the old yard until a few weeks ago. If I had known before the snow came down, I would have taken some time and cleaned up all the old lumber cluttering the floor of the old shed and I'd have groomed the trail straight through the building....sorta like going through one of those covered bridges. I'll be sure to get the floor tidied up this summer so I can run the trail through it next winter. I'll try attaching a pic of the building as well as one of our halfway checkpoint where we'll be cooking hot dogs and serving coffee/pop for everyone in the ride.

Hiya Richard. Looking forward to seeing you guys here again for the ride. Just thhought I'd mention that a bunch of us will be going back the the clubhouse on saturday night after the ride to cook up some food and talk sleds.....you guys are most welcome to join us.

It sounds like the weather is supposed to be excellent on saturday. I have the trail in perfect condition right now, however the weatherman said something about high winds for friday.....so I'll likely need to groom all night on friday to get the field portion of the trail back into shape. Here's hoping that the groomer keeps running well.
