295/S & 340/S pistons

what will it cost per set to get the two ring 340/s pistons made? it will be better for engine life.

Brian, You can be thankful that no one told you about John Deere's tooling rusting away out side in Polaris' fenced lot.

-Rich
I think that is a little different. These guys are an after market supplier. If they went to the trouble of making the forms once, why would they destroy them. I have no idea how large the dies are for these but there has to have been room in there wearhouse for them. Call me a pack rat but...

i worked in a press shop a while back when a machine shop i was wiorking for closed, and they store all there dies even if they havent used them in 20 years or more. every now and then theyd drag one in from 20 miles away that had a 1/2 inch of dust on it and wed work with it for half a day or more getting it lubed up and working again but theyd never throw em out.
not saying wiseco does the same but its possible.

my understanding the reason the ring pin location moved was a change from 340/2 to 340/5. the wiseco 2012 (340/5) pistons i have will be ok in the 340RS/2 motor for pin location.

deere parts book and tells me
jd 400 -11,000 ser. uses am52370 which subs to am52485 piston
jd 400 11,001-55,000 ser. uses am52485 which subs to am53056
this ser. range uses 340/no number and 340/5
340/5 motor didnt start till ser. 30,001
also in sub microfische these pistons sub "around the world" meaning they completely interchange with each other according to deere.
so what I get out of this is very likely all Deere ccw piston port 340/2,3,4,5 pistons interchange.
I dont know about the 340/RS2 yet.
wiseco 2012 and 340rs2 pistons are setting on my bench I'll try to look tomorrow
Thanks,
Ted

295/S & 340/S pistons

Post by Dator76 »

I measured the wiseco 2012 piston compared to the 340/s piston, I do not have a deere 340/5 or 340/4 piston to compare. radius of dome appears to be same, top of dome to pin is .008 shorter (less compression) on the wiseco, pin is same overall dia is same, skirts are definitly different the wiseco piston is .040 or 1mm longer than the 340/S and 2mm longer than the 295/S.

the skirt controls volume of fuel and air mix loaded into cylinder on a piston port. you will get less fuel and air mix using the 2012 piston compared to using the 340/S piston. like using the stock camshaft in a 350 chevy compared to one with more lift and longer duration.

the length of the 295/s skirt is relative to the location of the port in the cylinder however it is 1mm shorter than 340/S. radius of dome appears to be the same. pin dia is same. top of dome is .010 lower than 340/s (less compression).

ill try to map cylinders in near future
Thanks,
Ted

W. has the correct 295/s and 340/s piston samples for development folks...

Ohhh, and to those who are jumping up and down in PM's to me about what's right and what's wrong....just friggin' relax! W. has it under control and their powersports engineers' have forgotten more information about 2-stroke piston design then all of us we'll ever know combined!

They know what they're doing, so let them do the excellent job that they're known for and they'll take care of it. They now have all the info they need to develop what you want, so I'm not going to keep bugging them everyday about it and they'll get back with me when they're ready. :)

Depending on final cost you can write me down for a pair of standerd and a pair of .20 overs for my 295s I might take two sets of standerd size if the price is resonable.

Kudla, if you're unemployed you should be working out of Rainville's shop getting his sleds ready!!! LOL

Yeah Rainville is under a tight leash, he can only pay in NOS parts, while this is good, it wouldn't pay bills. Plus theres the possibility that he'll be joining me!
