80's LF Rear Suspension Springs

Post by 427cobra »

Have you guys had any luck latley finding new or NOS rear suspension springs? I am looking for a new or NOS pair and I am not having much luck. It looks like DeereDaze has only one side listed on ebay and Central no longer carries them.

Just wondering if anyone knew of another source that may carry them??

Thanks!

Eric, unfortunately these are no longer available for the '08-'09 season. Robb Lampa and I tried as hard as we could this passed fall to find these springs new. All of my vendors that have had them in the past still list them, but they don't have them. I called the manufacturer and they said that they don't plan on making any more so what's out there is out there. These can be made, but most places require a 50 piece minimum order and for the buyer to pay for tooling costs. $$$ If someone could get ahold of the tooling, these could be made rather cheaply. Check out the jolautim.com post in the links section. I put it in there expressly because they still have a few springs for the Liquifires in their inventory. I ordered a full set from JR Graham (the last ones that they had) and to my suprise they were a Trailfire springs. I needed them so I didn't send them back.

Jack: When you had the Manufacturer on the phone did you inquire what kind of minimum order they would want to reproduce a run of these springs??

Kenny, that's where I got the minimum order ballpark from. LLP is the company who makes the springs, ign. coils and other misc. snowmobile parts. The last 2 coils I ordered from Central were in 2005 and they were in Kawasaki bags vs. LLP bags, so I think that maybe they haven't made any vintage parts in quite a while. I'm thinking that distributors got their last shipments a long time ago. They were pretty curt with me on the phone, and pretty much all the info I got was we're not making any more, this is how many required for a small private run, we're only making parts that get bought on a regular basis so tough s#!t. I wasn't very happy but it's understandable. I'm thinking that most of our new non-OEM vintage parts will soon be coming from private parties instead of giant distributors. Cometic just did another run of Kawi. Invader gasket kits back in early December, and I had to wait for Wiseco to ship the new run of pistons for the 440 Deeres back in late October, so we're still in business engine-wise.

I just thought that whoever already had a ( Spring winder/Mold/whatever it would be called ) for the Liquifire springs would be an obvious place to start to contact?? I would think that the 80-84 Liquifires, Sportfires, Trailfires could all use the same springs, granted the Trailfires probably used a thinner coil Std. for a better ride, but for a quantity order could use the same springs.. Maybe if the length was changed a bit ( I think Longer ) the 78 Cyclones & Liquifires also could use the same springs?? so I would think that a minimum order of 500 + springs ( 250 + each side ) wouldn't be hard to get sold?? again the larger quantity the cheaper the price.. The problem again would be to get potential customers to order more than one pair for as many sleds as they had that the springs would fit..

Just my $.0735 worth
