Nice ride yesterday

Post by Liquifire 4/6 »

I enjoyed a very nice retro ride yesterday. Went out with my bro and a couple buddies as well as one of my bud's 12 year old son. I rode my Snowfire and we had a 77 Cyclone, 79 Trailfire, 81 Liquifire as well as a Moto Ski Mirage I. Put on about 30 miles without any probs. Sure wish I had remembered to bring my camera as it doesn't look like we'll get much more riding done this season....it's pouring rain as I type. The sweet part about the ride was that one of my buddies that came along yesterday is a fellow I hadn't ridden with in over 25 years.....the last time we rode together, I was on my 83 Liquifire and he had a 340/S. I lent him my Trailfire for yesterday's ride. As we rode down the trail on these vintage machines, it occured to me that it felt like only a few weeks may have passed since the last time we were out because out in the woods, with nothing to remind us that it is 2009, it truly felt as though we had travelled back in time. I had to chuckle at his 12 year old boy's remark at the end of the ride........he pipes up and says "Yeah, this sure feels like the olden days!"

I'm in Roblin, MB. That's approx 3 hours north of Minot, ND. We still have alot of snow....yesterday, if you walked off of the trail, you'd be waist deep in the stuff. But this rain is gonna make a real mess of things unless it cools off and turns to snow......I just heard the forecast and it sounds like that might be whats about to happen.

We generally have good sledding conditions from mid to late November thru til late march/ early April, though of course some years are better than others. I really have to congratulate you fellows who live in the short snow season areas for your committment to collecting and maintaining vintage John Deere snowmobiles (and other brands) despite only being able to ride them for 3-6 weeks or so. I'm not so sure that I'd be able to maintain my interest if such were the case. I salute you :beers;

If any of you care to take a bit of a trip next season, I'd be happy to arrange a John Deere ride in my area. We have an absolutely beautiful trail which I and a couple buddys have created solely for vintage riding. Or consider coming up for our vintage derby......not 100% certain on the date yet, but I'll post it when it's finallized.
