Flooding out!! (In Fargo)
Flooding out!! (In Fargo)
Hey all, they raised the crest level AGAIN!!, now the water could be at my door if the worst happened, and I am one of the highest in my area. The crest level is 42' right now,the flood level is 18'. 3 million sandbags so far and another 300,000 today for emergency diking. Fargo has decided to evacuate many areas as a precaution. Here are some pictures of people sandbagging and of the water near me. I will let you all know how it turns out here.

Flooding out!! (In Fargo)
I was thinking about taking a drive out that way to help out with sand bagging efforts but then I heard that traffic getting in is next to impossible. So I don't know if it would be to anyones benefit to put one more vehicle on the road in the area or not?
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the Folks in that area!

Traffic is much better today but we are not in as much need of help today as they are making sandbags for support only.
The big help is there are hundreds of service vehicles on the way to help us out, ambulances, national guard, buses of people, and others!
Truely amazing what is happening!
Listen here for more info if you are interested.

Flooding out!! (In Fargo)
I suppose I could go and get my buddies 6X6 Army Truck. I know it would be a slow ride but the payload is huge and that thing will go through just about anything.

No Bob, some body left their sink running.
Where do you think it came from?
Those big snow drifts may be a clue.

I sure hope everything holds for you guys out there. That is amazing--been watching on TV and the predicted crest keps going up. Not much could be worse than to have that river spill over into town. Hopefully this cold weather will stop any melting and let that River start to retreat.

I sincerely hope the efforts off the 80,000 voluntere's does the trick. I have heard that bus loads of folks came from as far away as Hibbing and the Twin Cites have been helping.
It suprised me that they announced that they are stopping at 43' on the levees. With additional precip expected Monday and Tuesday I hope they reconsider. F-M is a beautiful city and a real economic boost for the area. If they make a movie out of this might I suggest a title:" How the kids saved a city".
All the best to to my neighbors to the north.

Thanks guys, the water seems to be slowing and getting more steady. We are prepared to grab and go if something happens the next couple days. Came home tonight and they were hurrying to add bags to a dike right where that second picture shows. The wife and I are taking shifts to go lend a hand, the kid is sleeping upstairs.

I imagine that we will have to start sand bagging in Winnipeg in a week or so. If Fargo is already 3' above the 97 levels it means we are going to be in poor shape when that water hits us up north. I looked it up this morning and 18' is the flood stage for Fargo. Best of luck guys.

Flooding out!! (In Fargo)
Wycrumb, best of luck. I'm north of Winnipeg and we are running inyo similar things. My house is safe, but the neighbor is closer to the river and lower than me. The Red River rose 8 feet in a matter of hours and he started sand bagging yesterday.
Problem is that the ice is jamming and backing up the river. They have been out with ice breakers trying to get it moving
Jeff
