Suspension removal?

Post by 79 Spitfire »

Well since the season is done I am in need of removing the suspension on my 79 spitty. How does it come off is it bolted on or what?? I need to replace one idler wheel (have new one already). And just need to look it over,

Thansk Jim

James.
It's real simple. remove the 2 bolts on each side that holds it in, and wha-la, it's loose. Adjust the rear of the sled with a rope-hoist-tow strap- or what ever to help with the removal. Now taking the track off, that's a little more detailed.

I see those bolts to take off thanks. Thought I should take a look at my skis since I'm going to replace the carbides, well now I have to replace the entire ski because some tool decided to weld the carbides to the ski!!!!!!!!!!

One of my Sprintfires that I bought had the runner wore down so bad that they welded
a new piece in the hole of the ski. The pain was that they did it again & they only left the
nuts in place. 'cmon

Yeah mine on both skis are welded at the top of the ski and at each bolt hole for the carbide.

I paid $30 + shipping each for 2 rusty ones.
Maybe not the best deal, but I was desperate.
I have 1 left if you need one.
Just thought I'd offer.

I helped a buddy load a JDX a wile back that had a piece of 3/4" rebar welded to the length of both skies. Some tools should not be allowed to have tools,

I agree Scott, I mean seriously why would you weld the carbides to the ski cause then you have wasted the ski when the carbide wheres down to where it is pointless.

Just remember you got the whole summer now. So take your time. If your anything like me though it always seems like its a hurry up job - go to get to the next one. Where do people find patience. Might try heat, if you can get it to it. I second all the thoughts on welding the carbides to the skiis, its unbelievable sometimes what people try and pull.
