RUSTED SOLID? Give this a try (might work on suspension pivo
Hey guys,
I was just reading up on sleds and such and came across this handy little technique. It involves using melted wax on rusted (or corroded) bolts or anything else that is stuck. I've been wrenching forever and have never heard anything like this. Everyone on this guys thread swears by it, and I thought immediately that if I had only known of this when I had one of my LF suspensions apart, how I would have loved to have tried this. Please read here....

Can't tell you how many times I've had issues with rust. I'll have to give this a try.

Leebird from this site has told me of this, but I have not had the chance to use it.. I have a cyl rusted to the bolt on a kawi 440 motor..I will give this a try.. He also told me that he uses lye that will do the trick also... Frankie

I am going to remember this one! Maybe this should be moved to the Pinned "Tools and Techniques" section?

HI I have also used this fore years . I always use the cheap toilet seal rings . Also use it fore lube on Trailer or fence latches.Just heat up melt wax on /no mess water proof.

I have used the wax for years. Wrenching on 50-70 year old tractors you pick up on that stuff. The lye works too. Use oven cleaner, which is really just lye. BUT!!! remember, lye and aluminum DON'T mix!!!!! Another trick, when working with the old tractor manifolds, put stainless nuts on the studs, they don't rust.

This sounds fascinating and I can't wait to give it a whirl. Never in my entire life, have I ever so much looked forward to another rusty stuck bolt incident.

I know!!! I have an old Indy that needs skis and the bolts are stuck in the bushings....I am going to get to it this weekend as I've pounded, heated PB Blasted em all without any luck without damaging the bushings. Now I'm looking forward to it and will post some pics if it works!

How could I use this on my Aluminum X shafts on the LIQ?? You think letting it run into the bushings would free it up???

Heat up the parts you want to lubricate. While hot, put the wax against the parts you want waxed. The heat will melt and draw the wax in. It should free it up.Mr. Deere wrote:How could I use this on my Aluminum X shafts on the LIQ?? You think letting it run into the bushings would free it up???
