Front Reciever and Winch

I thought I would share my newest project with you all. I have a 1997 Chevy Z71 and so does my friend. We recently got winches from a friend of ours for $50 each. Mine is a 4500lb brand new winch. After this we got to thinking how handy it would be to have a winch for our vehicles, front or rear. So on Monday we went to work taking measurements. I drew up the parts at work and had them laser cut. We welded them on Tuesday, and I took them back to work for powder coating on Wednesday. We installed them last night. Here are some pictures of it before installation and after! The whole project, including the winch, wire, connectors, and steel cost me $105.10.

I could be wrong but isn't 4500 lb a little lite for a full sized truck. I though you normally wanted 1.5x the weight of the vehicle it is hooked to. Nice install though

Normally Scott, that is correct. What we have done with ours is get a pulley with a hook on it and sling it to your other hook point. Then double up your cable and hook it back to the truck. It will move at half the speed of the winch, but it will move twice as much. 4500 X 2 = 9000. So if your truck weighs around 6000lbs, it should be about right

YA, someday I will upgrade, the wire and reciever will handle it. I don't do much mudding, so I can use a block and tackle if needed to get unstuck. I am going to use it more for pulling out old sleds and other treasures. My buddy and I are also working on a crane unit.

Nice. Now since you have a receiver in the front you can hook a trailer on there for maneuvering in tight spots.
