Engine swap Trailfire to Sportfire

Post by ICCSF 108 »

I'm wandering if anyone has done this already? What if anything will I need & need to do to swap a 440 Trailfire engine into a Sportfire chassis?? will the Trailfire engine plate bolt right into the Sportfire Chassis??

Kenny, I did that swap about 8 years ago. I just don't remember which engine plate I used (I suffer from CRS), and I sold the sled last winter to make room for my Indy......sorry.

Thanks Bob, We'll ( my grandson & I ) be tackling this project in this next week as I'm changing everything from a Trailfire Tunnel to a Sportfire tunnel.

Hey Kenny,

Sorry I missed this post before now. Anyway, if you read the FAQ I wrote about Trail and Sportfires, they share a common chassis. You will need the matching motor plate to the motor you want to install, and air box. So a Trailfire motor, motor plate, airbox, carb and clutch calibration will drop into a Sporfire chassis, and vice/versa.

Joe, so if I read this right if I'm putting a Trailfire engine in a Sportfire chassis I need a Sportfire motor plate?? or are you saying that if I have a trailfire motor I need to use the Trailfire motor plate??

Hey Kenny,

Sorry If I wasn't clear. Wycrumb simplified that for me! Same chassis, Trail to Sport. If using a Trailfire motor you need a Trailfire mounting plate, exhaust manifold, and air box. Pipe is the same. Clutch calibration is also different. Not sure how the Sport multi angle helix and drive weight would react to the 15% less powerful Trail motor...
