Hey Guys
I have a 76' liquifire that I am having problems with.I was told the reason (maybe??) my machine will not fire is that the crank seals are bad. I still think it would fire on one cylinder unless both are bad or one is so bad it leaks that bad to affect both cylinders?? Anyway I am going to replace the crank seals. I know I can change the pto side out with out taking the engine out. My question is can I do the same for the mag side?? and what are the steps for changing the seals especially the mag side...helpful hints?? Also should I put high temp silicone on the seals or do they need it?? harmful to the seals?? Thanks for any help to get this deere running.

You can replace the outer seals without splitting the cases, But it doesn't always work that easy & if the outer ones are bad there is also a good chance that the inside ones are bad or will need replaceing also.

Deere Hunter Canada,
If you change out the outer mag seal, you will need to remove the stator and timing ring to excess the seal. Make a index mark on the timing ring before removal to replace it in the exact location. This is important because any movement will change the timing. If the engine has electric start, the outer housing will have to come off to remove the flywheel. This is possible but much easier with the engine on the bench.
I personally would remove the engine from the sled unless you have a snowmobile stand to raise it up.
If you don't have one, buy a service manual .
