Tech question on points
Having a hell of a time trying to file these contacts on my points. There new & close square,But only about 3-5% of the two contacts really touch. Is this enough to fire? Trying to get spark back on my 300. Got lucky & got one point to close with good contact. The others like chasing around a needle with a little file.

Your best bet is to just get a new set. There not expensive. Dont even mess around with the old ones. Also to get a good strong spark they need to fully come together and touch.

Im confused you say they are new and close square but are not really touching by much. Are the points surfaces not flat or are they sitting crooked hanging off the edge of each other?

The points are new. They close square,But looking at the right angle in good light ,you can see there only touching in a small area. Buying new points would not guarantee id get anything different. Also these points are had to find.Dennis kirk sent me a set listed for a jd300,They werent even close to fitting. Finally found the right ones i have from GPI.

Well, your choice is either return them for a different and hopefully better set, or file them. I've also recieved new points that were pretty far off. Ended up finding an NOS set instead.

you probably should just pull them out and try and file them alot of replacement aftermarket stuff really is of pretty poor quality anymore and I try and fix what I have........plus having a bunch of spare parts and sleds helps to
