Dator serial numbers
Dator serial numbers
Newbie here, I tried to do a search but couldn't find what I was looking for. Is there someplace where there is a list of the liquidator serial numbers and who raced/rode them? I know it may not be a public thing but is there a go to guy privately that has a lot of data on these sleds? Also from a price stand point from horrible condition to mint condition what are these sleds going for currently. Thanks
Re: Dator serial numbers
Prices are high as there is few around and they were somewhat legendary with all of there wins. I have seen a chaise with out motor or pipes go for 1400 and restored I know one member here was offered 6000. For a complete sled your are looking 3000 if the owner knows what it is. You might find a deal but people chase leads for these sleds for years to find them. Best of luck if you are searching, you will have some competition trying to find one in NY.

Re: Dator serial numbers
Not asking b/c I am looking for one, I am asking because we have one. I was looking to research the serial number and maybe find some history on it.
**edit** Sorry Kyle I just realized that didnt sound to good once I read it. I meant to say thanks for your help with the ballpark figures it helps a lot. But I really would like to find out more info on who may have raced this one or its history.

Re: Dator serial numbers
Billy100,
Sorry your grandfather had to pass on for you to get a Dator, but they are deffinately cherished buy us Deere collectors. Scott gave you very good ballpark number for value. Of the 3-6 I have, I've paid near those ranges.
A few of the guys have the purchaser and race history of many sleds. If you send me the serial number (last 3 digit's really) I can see if the guys can find anything out for you. My home e-mail is: joerainville@hotmail.com or you can PM through here. Nice to see another Dator in NY! So far I know of only 8 others in the entire state, with at least 4 of them apart.
Do you have copies of the I-500 race video from 1976 that shows Brian Nelson winning the I-500? If not, we have been passing around copies to each other. My friend John has one of the 17 that actually finished the I-500 in 76.
