1980 spitfire stator question

Post by scorp11 »

Do I have to remove the stator to put a seal in that side ? I was hoping not to mess with the timing, but near as I can tell, I am going to have to remove the stator. Before I did, I thought I better ask.

Also, anything special I need to do for these to re-seal the case ? Just threeBond on the halves, put the new seals in and I am done ?

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin, I might suggest that you get a Service or Technical Manual for your serial number Spitfire, It will help you immensely & help you understand the correct way to repair your sled.

Yes, the stator is in the way, but just mark it's position with a sharpie before you remove it. Some of the Kawasakis actually have a fixed-position stator, but I'm not sure about that one.

You can download the tech manual for free at http://www.vintagesnow.com/John_Deere.html, and click Service Manuals.

Thanks Matt. I do have the online book, and that is what it says. I was just hoping someone had found an easier way :)
