295/S Motor Questions

Post by Cabindweller »

Well I am getting closer to getting a 295/s motor put together. I now have a crank case, both Jugs, heads and the carb mounts. I need to know what the part number is stamped on a 295/s Crank. or better yet how can you positivly ID a 295/s crank. I also read in an older post that a 440/5 crank would substitute in a 295/s. If that is the case I already have a couple 440/5 cranks. Jesse told me that the 76,77 and preferably a 78 Liquifire CDI system would substitute in a 295/s. So I will most likely go that route for ingnition. Next has anyone tried the Yamaha piston set up yet? Or will I have to be the first ginny pig? Question about that, could you shave the top of the crank case and then run the standard gasket?
A couple major things I am still on the hunt for are a 295/s Fan tower and engine cover/tin and of course the airbox. I notice that the 295/s Crank case is pretty much Identical to a 440/5 crank case. If shaving the top of the crank case is a plausible soltion to give the Yamaha pistons proper ring clearance, I would feel better about doing it on a non 295/s Crank case.

Jerry, You have to word that a little different. I said I THINK they will work. Some one else might know more about this then me. One thing I do see is that you might have to add on to the wires.

I will add that a cyclone cdi would work the best. the wires are longer and don't need to be lenghtened. I have a 295/s with a cyclone cdi setup, works fine.
