How much is a running engine worth? I sold a KEC 440/21 for $150 without a carb or a cluth but with new seals and head gaskets. I just saw a KEC 440 for a 500 go for $350. That seems a little high to me as I've bought about 7 sleds for about half that price each. With about an evening per engine, they are all strong runners. If people will pay $400 including shipping for a running engine, I should probably pull all mine and retire early (I'm only 16). I was wondering how much youguys have sold engines for and if $350 sounds high to you as well. Thanks.

That auction seems a little suspecious (sp?). The seller, a whole lot of the bids, and the winner, were all 0 feedback and new to ebay.

Matt is 100% right Ive sold atleast 12 motors on ebay in the past year and most didnt even bring what they were worth. Beleive me that motor didnt go that high without some very heavy [padding] of the bid. Keep your eyes open Im sure you will see it back on there within a couple weeks.

Now What do you think the value of a NOS CCW 440 motor is in the orgional box?

A Moter that old that is still in the box isnt worth anymore than a running used moter, think about it..that moter is 25+ years old..it has just been sitting and never started..even though its brand new still it will need seals beacause it was just sitting and the seals most likely have 'dried' up. If the carb is on the moter that will also need a rebuild because all the diaphrams will be dried up also.

Hey Guys,
I once paid $750 for an NOS 80 LF motor for my NOS LF project. So, it's worth what the highest bidder is willing to pay for it.
As for the value of an NOS motor in general, my two cents says its worth alot more than a used motor if it was stored properly. Even if it needed seals, you can do them on a CCW/Kioritz without splitting the block like on a Kawi. And, since the seals never saw gas or oil, they should be in pretty good shape. I have NOS seals from 72 that are still soft because they never saw UV light or hydrocarbons.
I guess Evil Bay would be the best determaination of max retail value, but I would think an NOS motor in the $400 to $800 dollar range could be fair. I knew of a NOS 340/s motor that had a hard time selling at $600.00. You can only get what the market will bear.
