1980 JD Liquifire delema...sell or keep

Post by bruham »

I have this 80 Liquifire I've had since 96' in 2000' I was in an accident that left me paralyzed and unable to ride forever . My boys now are 14 and 18 and have always said to me to sell the JD because of the maintanence or it's a piece of junk ..I disagree on the junk part, anyway I have pored my heart into this machine over the years by fixing any short coming . I had just got it back last Thur. from having a new internal ignition coil put on then after it came off the trailer the rope broke , got that fixed bly my 14 yr old the next day so it's been running for two days and just an hour ago the rope will not recoil back in. It just seems like it's always something to my boys and me and just wish these irratable problems would stop. If I wasn't in a wheelchair I'd completly restore it but is it worth it.....if I had room I'd hang it up by the rafters and retire it but it does run to good to do so. I just wish I knew someone that knows these sled inside and out that could help me go through it to eliminate these little hassels. If anybody is up for it call me if not I'm letting her go.
I have a lot off JD extra parts/oem cover for it I'll send pictures on request . 515-432-3027

Stick with it. It sounds like you're experiencing every Kawi JD owner's headache. It seems that the rope sheave cracks on those recoils and makes it a royal pain. I'd slap on a good recoil and send it down the trail. It may be old and outdated but, as per a conversation I had just yesterday-I'd bring an 80's Liquifire on a snowmobile trip as a backup without thinking twice. They ride nice, they have some suspension, they keep up with the group, they're as reliable as anything else if you keep them up, and they always get looks at the gas pump. I always appreciated what I had as far as sleds went. I would still rather ride my Spitfire all season than not ride at all. When I had my '80 Liquifire and my '01 Edge 700, I would ride the Liquifire just as much as the Edge if not, more often.

Bruham. My wife Tanya and I both agree that you should hang on to your passion as everyday brings new hopes, dreams, and endless possibilities!!!
If you weren't so far away from us, we would help you with your machine, but all we can do is offer you encouragment to hold on to something that obviously is so dear to you or to make a consciencous decision to sell it without regret. There is a saying we live by..." When in doubt, DON"T"!. So if you have any doubts about getting rid of it...then that is your answer! As far as your boys go they may show an interest in this sled later on in years. Attached to it will be memories and sentimental values. We have several Deere's and have owned MANY modern day sleds and trust us they all break down- except the new sleds are one hell of alot more money to fix. You have to go with your gut instinct, if you think that one day you or your children will use it again then we say keep it...but if after all the bugs are worked out and no one intends to use it, then we say sell it and let someone use it for the purpose in which its intended, but only you can make that final decision. Remember, the good Lord will only give you what he feels you can handle.!!! If you decide to sell it ,we hope that someone from this forum buys it so that they will remember your love for it and appreciate it. Good Luck! Rob and Tanya
