I have a 1983?? (how can I tell?) John Deere Liquifire and a similar vintage Trailfire 340. I am considering restoring or selling ? I will restore it if I can find sources (reasonably priced) and a web site that can provide assistance. (this appears to be the place!!)
I have restored several 1965, 66 Ford Mustangs and have found several web sites that provided unbelievable amounts of information. I have very limited experience when it comes to sleds. My father-in-law bought these sleds new in 1983 or 84. He gave them both to me for FREE. Not sure if that was a present or a punishment.
Last winter I tried to get them running and was successful with both sleds. TheTrailfire ran the best but was slower and not as much fun to ride (it was my mother-in-laws sled). The Liquifire was tough to get running, but when it ran it was surprisingly fast. My FIL says it was one of fastest sleds you could buy in early 80's. Is that true?
The LiquiFire had idling problems and was tough to get started. After reading a little bit on this sight so far, I suspect carb problems. Also some bolts behind the clutch keep coming loose?
OK, this is getting too long. Is it worth working on these things or would someone out there like to be the proud new owner? I live in York,Pa. Not exactly snow country but I have access to lots of field riding from my home and maybe a trip up to Potter County if I get brave enough.
Let me know your thoughts or comments.
Thanks

jrambler,
Look at the right side of the tunnel for the model #/ serial number and post it. We can tell you what year the sleds are. If you want to restore the sleds, this is the site to use. There is a wealth of info here. If you want to sell, email me some pictures and a price, I could be interested. I am about 1 1/2 hours east of you.

If you want to sell I maybe intrested aswell live in the Scranton area. If you want to restore like harley said this is a great place. We have alot of combined years of experience with sleds. You can probably get an answer to most any question if asked here. The bad side is the vintage sled nuts and parts suppliers are nothing like vintage cars as far as numbers and sources. Im sure you were able to get just about anything reproduction for your mustangs with these sleds you can get mechanical parts but little or no reproduction parts as far as cosmetic items etc mostly you will need to hunt hard for nos stuff but parts to keep em running are out there fairly prentiful.
