Re: INVADER,MIKUNI CARB QUESTION
Dave, slide valve or butterfly? If slide valve then they adjust just like the ones on the Deere's.

Re: INVADER,MIKUNI CARB QUESTION
OK Dave, I found the post we were talking about, there is a brass screw with a big spring on it on about the lower to middle of the barrel of the carb body this screw is to set the Idle. But first of all you need to make sure that on the twin carbs that both Throttle valves are rising at the same time when you depress the throttle lever.
The way to to this is to remove the air box & with the engine shut off stick your first finger into one carb so you can feel the throttle valve then with your little finger of the same hand stick it in the other carb so you can feel the throttle valve on that carb also ( this is very tricky if you have small hands ) then with your other hand very slowly depress the throttle if one throttle valve opens before the other you need to either lower the throttle cable at the top of the carb of the one that opens first or raise the cable on the one which open last..
once you've got the throttle valves opening at the exact same time, then you also have to depress the throttle to WOT & make sure both throttle valves are in fact raising all the way up in the carb, if they are you shouldn't be able to see any of the throttle valve in the intake hole ( they should be above that..)
Now that you have this done it is time to adjust the idle. it is best to have a Carb Sync for Multi Carburetor, such as
ebay item # 190359707687. This is the best way to adjust the idle cheap, there are better ones but they are rather expensive..
You can also watch the tach & lower the throttle valve by screwing out the idle screw on one side then the other & mess with them until you think you have it but this is time consuming & this does not necessarily mean you have them correctly adjusted.. You just basically have them in the ballpark.
On some sleds when you put the air box back on & move the throttle cable this can screw up your throttle valve adjustment so watch for this happening also.
Also make sure if you have to screw out the throttle cable from the cap very far that the throttle valve is still returning all the way down @ idle, it should bottom out on the idle screw, if not the cable will be holding it up.. If you snap the throttle valve up with you finger you can hear the difference if it's hitting the idle screw or bottoming on the cable.
Good luck, If you run into a problem or don't quit understand all this call me I'll walk you through it 816-229-8765 home or 612-325-8527 cell

Re: INVADER,MIKUNI CARB QUESTION
Kenny,
Great explanation on the throttle valve adjustment. I have a question, and I figured it'd be better off here than making a new thread.
When I adjusted the valve up just clearing the throttle on my '82 LF, now it wont come all the way back down to the idle screw. It's like it doesn't have enough throw.
It is definitely not bottoming out on the idle screw. That, and the screw in the cap is all the way up. Any help is appreciated, thanks

Re: INVADER,MIKUNI CARB QUESTION
you might want to lube up cables and or pull cap off of carb inspect the valve spring and needle and cable,i had one of those cables come off the valve and got caught up in the spring and wasnt getting returned back down to the idle screw....nitromag57

Re: INVADER,MIKUNI CARB QUESTION
Thanks nitro. Yeah, there is definitely no hang up, I've had the tops off several times. If I adjust them down so that it idles correctly, then at WOT the air box side is even hanging down almost an 1/8 inch. Then when I adjust it so that the slide is all the way out of the carb throat, it doesnt come down and touch the idle screw. Its like there isnt enough throw.
