Just as I suspected...

There is a pic on vintagesleds.com currently. I will see it first hand tomorrow.

Yep, I helped bring it in. My first impression? I'm almost sorry it didn't remain a myth.. Oh it's exactly like the picture (Ed Kruel's picture) in the mountains. Probably because it's the same sled LOL. I'm sure pictures will be posted soon. Thank you to the Polaris guys that kindly brought it down.

That is a different sled than the one outside at Polaris. The one at Waconia has 81 hood decals and 82 tunnel stripes. Peter

It appears to have more rear suspension given the taller limit blocks and rear swing arm angle.

Dick Teal and Ed Kruel talked about this project when we met the first time ( 4 years ago ) at the HOF.

If memory serves, that suspension was the first time that a computer was used to model the design, and come up with the geometry and lengths of the arms. I'm thinking this sled has around 12" of travel, but again, I'm working off memory. At any rate, it was more than previous models.

The ski width was not widened, because that would have required buyers to buy a wider trailer as well, but that was one of the next improvements coming.

Too bad they didn't make production because those are nice improvements. I heard there was a 550 powerplant machine in the pipeline from the sled wrench at my local dealer.

AirborneX4, welcome to the site. The Horicon guys tell us that this A-arm sled had a 550 fan.

I would say that the sled on vintagesleds is the same as the one on the prototype page. If you look closely on the vintage sleds picture you can see the 81 stripes on the hood.

Thanks Matt. The JD sled mechanic I mentioned was talking in terms of a liquid cooled 550 mill like what appeared in the Kavasaki Interceptor. That fan cooled machine is all new to me; time flies and we're talking about 25 years ago. I would say the A - arm system has been very good to Arctic Cat and would have been great on a Deere.

The sled at Waconia is definately not the sled in the picture above. DA
