340/440

Post by zacman »

when swapping a 340 lf motor for a 440 lf motor, do all parts interchange? the 440 i want to put in has its carbs, so i wont have to mess with re-jetting the miks from the 340. the 440 also has the clutch pulley on it. will the 340 y-pipe/exhaust work with the 440 motor? someone mutilated the 440 y-pipe, all thats left thats usable are the flanges. has anyone done this before? i'm obviously new to this forum, and i'm new to snowmobiles, 2-strokes, and john deeres in general. i do know which end of a socket wrench is which, and am not afraid to do a little cutting or welding either, so not a total new-by.

First off, welcome!

Second, you are going to have a hard time getting these guys to help you cut up one of the rarest and most sought after Deere sleds. The y-pipe off of the CC 340 is restrictive to meet the 45hp require4ment for the race circuit. I don't believe your 440 will like that.

Third, there are quite a few guys who will be willing to buy that sled from you for much more than you paid for it. Then you will be able to buy the 440 you seem to desire so much. And still have money left over most likely. Just my $.02

basically, from my point of view, i bought this sled to ride this winter. if its only worth $500 or $600, i'm just going to keep it and ride it. my buddy will sell me the more powerful 440 bolt in engine for $75, so i might have a 55 hp + sled for less than $100. its not necassarily about me wanting specifically a 440, its bang for the buck with my first sled.

Here are a few of the diiferences between the liquid cooled Kioritz engines:
340 CC to 340 standard: jetting, exhaust(unique to CC only), clutching
340 standard to 440: jetting, clutching
The lower /bottom end is the same for all 340/440 engines. The exhaust is the same for 340 / 440 standard engines. If you convert the engine to a 440, you must tune it to the correct specs for the model year of the engine. There were differences in tuning thru the years. The info can be found in the FAQ section.
The 78 Cross Country snowmobile has a unique rear suspension to it, some feel is the most smoothest to ride of all the Deere line.
