tr800 question

Post by big danno 1970 »

Just wondering what the problem was with the tr800,I just aquired one and I opened it up and it seems like it should have been a pretty good clutch.I dont care for the comet cluthes as in my opinion they ware out far too fast for a high dollar clutchand it costs far too much to rebiuld them as well.
If the problem was the bushings wareing(sp?) out then couldnt a person get a new set made?
Thanks
Dan

I have been exposed to two separate schools of thought on the TR 800. One version is that it's the smoothest engagement clutch ever built but does not last very long and the rebuild is very expensive. The other is that it's a great clutch and Comet essentially co - opted the design for the 108EXP. I have personally operated both the TR and the 108 EXP on the same sled and have no issues with either piece.

If I were forced to choose between the them I would side with the 108EXP. Perhaps that would fit with school of thought #2.?
