Re: Sporfire Engine Needed
I have a twin carb fan cooled kawasaki motor. It should be a pretty close fit in the sportfire chassis. The oil injection would be the concern, seeing that it is set up like a 80's LF. Its out of an Intruder.
It would be a cool project!

Re: Sporfire Engine Needed
This is a co-workers sled, thought he needed a crank, however it needs a cylinder only.
Anyone got a set of useable jugs to get rid of ?
This will be his son's sled, a 12 year old and the boy is anxious.

If you think he is anxious now wait till he is 17.

Being anxious with no snow.....
Maybe a Trailfire engine swap would get it back up and running too...??
I guess it depends on how original he wants it.
Doesnt our buddy near Freeport IL have an engine??

Re: Sporfire Engine Needed
I'm pretty sure Sportfires, and Trailfires share the same cylinders, just the heads are different. At least that is what I remember when I did my Sportfire last summer. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable, on here, can confirm. Anyone? That might make it a little easier finding cylinders.

Re: Sporfire Engine Needed
I doubt that's the case, the two engines are fairly different, but I've never checked.johnnycyclone wrote:I'm pretty sure Sportfires, and Trailfires share the same cylinders, just the heads are different. Re: Sporfire Engine Needed
Paul, I have some 80 Sportfire jugs. I am unsure if they are different or the same as 82-83.

Re: Sporfire Engine Needed
Thanks for the clarification Matt. I knew the cranks and cases were different along with the heads. But for some reason I remember the cylinders having the same stamping numbers. I still haven't learned, not to rely on my memory, I can't even remember what I did yesterday! How is it I could remember stamping numbers from over a year ago.Matt wrote:I doubt that's the case, the two engines are fairly different, but I've never checked.johnnycyclone wrote:I'm pretty sure Sportfires, and Trailfires share the same cylinders, just the heads are different. Re: Sporfire Engine Needed
I don't know if this helps you out, there's a bunch of sportfire parts in a lot for sale on eBay. I just glanced at it but it looks like theres a lot of usable engine parts in it. For sure pistons and a crank I don't remember what else was all there.
